Helping Students Write a Good Blog

In this blog, I will guide you through the process of growing and improving your ability as a blogger.

As an English teacher, I am passionate about blogging because it is a completely unique form of writing. How can it get any easier to systematically publish one’s own ideas to the world? By simply writing on a pre-made template, I avail my words to a watching world. To me, that is way more exciting than writing papers for a teacher (though that has useful purposes as well).

In this unit, students can pick from literally thousands of different subjects to write about. All that is required is that these subjects come from a scholastic background that would be applicable in a college or university setting. That means no blogging about werewolves, UFOs, or the monster under your bed. These blogs have to be clearly connected to sound scholarship – not speculation.

It is my belief that blogs will grow to such a significance that, with significant adaption, they will replace newspapers and many other sources of information, possibly even books. Don’t believe me? Well perhaps I may be wrong, but I think amazon.com’s Kindle is definitely a step in this direction.

This website will help you develop the tools you need to join this movement of “web logging” or “blogging”.

If you had one chance to tell the world your thoughts, what would you say?

I just wanted to drop you a line to say that I recently started a blog and was reminded of our little AP English activity.
