Late Work:
- Excused absence work: Any and all late work due to absence will be accepted with a 100% grade no later than one (1) day after the regular due date per excused absence. It is your job to check this blog regularly for updates and new assignments. It is a matter of grace that you should be allowed any extra days in this unit since all assignments are clearly explained online.
- Unexcused absence work: If you decided to skip one day, for whatever reason, your assignment is due the same day it is for everyone else.
- Work simply turned in late: Due to the easily accessible nature of each assignment on this blog, the availability of the teacher and many adept students in class for help (as well as by email), you have virtually no excuse to turn in any work late. Thus, late work will naturally be viewed with disdain, receiving no more than 2/3 credit, and that only up till the remainder of the week in which the assignment was given (Saturday is the end of the week). At the crack of midnight which begins Sunday, you will be unable to turn in any late work for credit.
The 30% Rule
One of the goals in this class is to integrate students with others, whether it’s someone else studying the same field in Japan or the person sitting next to you. Ironically, it’s become easy to become isolated and self-absorbed in this increasingly internetworked world.
In this unit, your ability to work with others will be rewarded. But your complaints will be discouraged. How?
- If you are overheard complaining at any point, the teacher may reduce the grade you receive on that assignment by 30%.
- If you invest a significant amount of time (at least 5-10 minutes) helping someone else who is behind when you could be working on your own, you will receive an additional 30% on that assignment when that person comes to me to explain how you helped.
